What is ISO 11443 about?
ISO 11443 specifies methods for determining the fluidity of plastic melts subjected to shear stresses at rates and temperatures approximating to those arising in plastics processing.
The methods described in ISO 11443 are useful for determining melt viscosities from 10 Pa∙s to 107 Pa∙s, depending on the measurement range of the pressure and/or force transducer and the mechanical and physical characteristics of the rheometer. The shear rates occurring in extrusion rheometers range from 1 s−1 to 106 s−1.

Why should you use ISO 11443?
The fluidity of thermoplastic can be analyzed by a series of indices, such as molecular weight, melting index, Archimedes spiral flow length, apparent viscosity, and flow ratio (flow length/plastic wall thickness).
The fluidity of plastics has a great influence on its quality, mould design and the moulding process. It is not easy for plastics with poor fluidity to fill the cavity, leading to defects such as insufficient filling or weld lines. Therefore, a high moulding pressure is required to well complete the injection moulding process. In addition, the level of fluidity is essential to determine the mould structure.
