What is BS EN 16474 - Tyre curing machines about?
BS EN 16474 is a British standard used for plastics, and rubber machines that specifies the safety requirements for tyre curing machines. By adopting BS EN 16474 you can ensure the safety of your employees while using these machines.
BS EN 16474 applies to tyre curing machines having the following configuration:
- Crossing flow tyre curing machines, with two cavities with:

- Tyre curing machines with automatic rear feeding, and discharge
Note: BS EN 16474 does not deal with:
- Feeding system, and discharge system
- Tyre curing machines with manual loading of the green tyre into the mould, and manual unloading of the cured tyre from the mould
- Ancillary equipment which is not an integral part of the tyre curing machine, e.g. conveying equipment
- Exhaust systems
BS EN 16474 deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations, and events relevant to tyre curing machines, when they are used as intended, and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer (see Clause 4). BS EN 16474 does not deal with hazards associated with the falling of parts of the container or mould.
