What is ISO 20430 about?
ISO 20430 specifies the essential safety requirements for the design and construction of injection moulding machines for the processing of plastics and/or rubber and provides information for their safe use.
ISO 20430 is applicable only to injection moulding machines with hydraulic and/or electrical drives for platen movement.
The following are not covered in ISO 20430:
- Machines on which the clamping unit can only be operated by the physical force of the operator
- Machines for which the hydraulic jack can only be manually operated
- Injection blow moulding machines and machines for reaction injection moulding
- Compression moulding machines and transfer moulding machines
- Direct-on sole moulding machines, unit sole and footwear component moulding machines, full shoe, and boot moulding machines
- Design of an exhaust system and design and construction of the mould
Note: ISO 20430 is not applicable to injection moulding machines which are manufactured before the date of its publication.
Who is ISO 20430 for?
ISO 20430 on plastics and rubber machines are applicable to:
- Plastics and rubber machine manufacturers
- Health and safety regulatory authorities
- Plastics and rubber machine distributors, resellers, rebuilders, and integrators
- Plastics and rubber machine owners/employers
- Plastics and rubber machine operators/employees
- Plastics and rubber machine service providers, e.g. for maintenance
Why should you use ISO 20430?
Need for injection moulding machines is growing due to the usage of injection moulding in everyday use plastics and even bigger machines and automobiles. Seeing their wide range of applications, it is important to ensure that the machines are safe to use and produce good quality moulding.
ISO 20430 will help you to prevent and deal with all significant hazards, hazardous situations, and events relevant to injection moulding machines, when they are operated as per guidelines and under conditions of misuse that the manufacturer reasonably anticipates during the machinery's life span.
Following the requirements in ISO 3949 will assist you in creating a safe design and construction of injection moulding machines for the processing of plastics and/or rubber as well as reducing costs in the manufacturing of plastics and rubber machines. Contribute to the standardization of the manufacturing processes for plastics and rubber machines
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 20430:2020 supersedes BS EN 201:2009, which is withdrawn. BS EN ISO 20430:2020 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 201:2009. These include:
- Modification of the scope
- Cancellation of the safety requirements for magnetic clamping systems
- Cancellation of the safety requirements for other ancillary requirements
- Adaption of the normative references and referring to ISO standards
- Consideration of revised type-A and type-B standards
