What is PD CEN/TS 17176-3 – PVC-O pipe fittings about?
PD CEN/TS 17176-3 is the third part of the PD CEN/TS 17176 multi-series on the plastic piping systems, and discusses oriented unplasticized poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC-O) fittings.
PD CEN/TS 17176-3 specifies the characteristics of solid-wall oriented unplasticized poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC-O) fittings for piping systems intended for water supply and for buried drainage, sewerage, treated wastewater, and irrigation under pressure or above-ground were protected from direct sunlight.
The scope of PD CEN/TS 17176-3 is limited to double sockets, repair couplings, reducers, and non-end load-bearing elbows.
PD CEN/TS 17176-3 specifies the test parameters for the test methods referred to in PD CEN/TS 17176-3.
PD CEN/TS 17176-3 is applicable to oriented PVC-O fittings intended to be used for the following:
- water mains and services lines
- conveyance of water for both outside and inside buildings
- drainage, sewerage, and treated wastewater under pressure
- irrigation under pressure
Note 1: The scope of PD CEN/TS 17176-3 is restricted to fittings on the market during the preparation of PD CEN/TS 17176-3. Therefore tees, flange adaptors, etc., are excluded from this version of the standard.
Note 2: For double sockets, repair couplings, and reducers there are no special fittings designs for end-load bearing applications. However, restrained gaskets can be used for end-load bearing applications. In that case, the requirements of EN 17176-5 are applicable.
Who is PD CEN/TS 17176-3 – PVC-O pipe fittings for?
PD CEN/TS 17176-3 on PVC-O pipe fittings is useful for:
- Pipe fittings manufacturers and suppliers
- Product development teams / research and development teams
- Builders / real estate developers
- Contractors
- Construction site supervisors
- Civil engineers
- Architects
Why should you use PD CEN/TS 17176-3 – PVC-O pipe fittings?
PD CEN/TS 17176-3 is applicable to piping systems intended for the supply of water with a maximum allowable operating pressure (PFA) up to and including 25 bar1. The piping system according to this European Standard is intended for the conveyance of cold water up to and including 45 °C and especially in those applications where special performance requirements are needed, such as impact loads and pressure fluctuations.
PD CEN/TS 17176-3 specifies a range of fittings sizes and pressure classes and gives a requirement and recommendations concerning colours.
In respect of potential adverse effects on the quality of water intended for human consumption, caused by the products covered by PD CEN/TS 17176-3, the following is relevant:
- PD CEN/TS 17176-3 provides no information as to whether the products can be used without restriction.
- Existing national regulations concerning the use and/or the characteristics of these products remain in force.
PD CEN/TS 17176-3 guidelines help you to understand the characteristics and test methods for PVC-O piping systems and components.
