What is BS EN 61988-2-1 - Measuring methods for PDP about?

Plasma televisions were the first large flat panel displays released to the public. BS EN 61988-2-1 is a part of an international multi-series standard that focuses on aspects of plasma display panels (PDP).

BS EN 61988-2-1 determines the measuring methods for characterizing the performance of PDP modules. BS EN 61988-2-1 includes 4% window luminance, luminance uniformity, dark-room contrast ratio, bright-room contrast ratio 100/70, white chromaticity and chromatic uniformity, colour gamut in the centre box, module power and current consumption, module power consumption using video signal, module luminous efficacy and panel luminous efficacy.

Who is BS EN 61988-2-1 - Measuring methods for PDP for?

BS EN BS EN 61988-2-1 on the measuring methods for PDP is useful for:

  • Manufacturers and suppliers of plasma display devices
  • Manufacturers and suppliers of electronic equipment and components
  • Manufacturers and suppliers of optoelectronic and semiconductor devices
  • Product development teams
  • Maintenance and augmentation teams
  • Companies associated with designing and installation of electronic devices
  • Fault management teams
  • Quality control personnel
  • Regulatory authorities

Why should you use BS EN 61988-2-1 - Measuring methods for PDP?

Electronic equipment is used in applications that rely on mechanical or electric systems for their operation. They are essential to any work on electronics systems for creating signals and capturing responses from electronic devices. PDP use small cells containing ionized gas that responds to electric fields. There are certain standardized specifications contributing to the performance of a PDP.

BS EN 61988-2-1 discusses terms and definitions that depict a user-friendly idea of PDP. BS EN 61988-2-1 also provides users with standard measuring conditions along with optical and optoelectrical methods which contribute to the performance characteristics of PDP ensuring their reliability. The guidelines in BS EN 61988-2-1 help you perceive the measuring methods for PDP that enable you to provide a superior quality product to your customers.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 61988-2-1:2012 supersedes EN 61988-2-1:2002 and EN 61988-2-2:2003. BS EN 61988-2-1:2012 includes some technical changes with respect to EN 61988-2-1:2002 and EN 61988-2-2:2003. These include:

  • EN 61988-2-1:2002 and EN 61988-2-2:2003 were combined and reconstructed in BS EN 61988-2-1:2012
