What is ISO 35482 about?

ISO 3584 is an International Standard on plain bearings. ISO 3548-2 is the second part in the multi-series of documents that is applicable to the plain bearings on thin-walled half bearings with or without flanges. Conformity to ISO 3548-2 helps maintain geometrical precision and accuracy in the manufacture of bearings for various applications.

ISO 35482 specifies, in accordance with ISO 12301, the checking of the wall-thickness of thin-walled half bearings with or without flange and describes the necessary checking methods and measuring equipment.

ISO 35482 applies to a maximum bearing diameter of 150 mm. It can be applied to a bigger diameter, provided that there is an agreement between the supplier and the user.

Who is ISO 35482 for?

ISO 35482 on thin-walled half bearings with or without flange is relevant to:

  • Thin-walled half bearing manufacturers
  • Automobile industry

Why should you use ISO 35482?

Plain bearings are widely used across industries where sliding, rotating, oscillating or reciprocating motion are present. They are mainly used in applications where precision and geometrical accuracy is a critical feature for performance.

To ensure the required bearing clearance, and consequently, the operational efficiency of the plain bearing unit, ISO 35482 recommends the wall thickness tolerances specified in ISO 35481.

ISO 3548-2 can also help identify the presence of grease, dirt, burrs, and other similar components, as well as damage or deformation on the outside surface that may impair the measurement. As a result, this will help you in avoiding inaccuracy in measurements.

As a manufacturer, inspecting the wall thickness of thin-walled bushes in accordance with ISO 3548-2 can help you establish conformity with international standards, thus fostering confidence and reliability for your products.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS ISO 35482:2020 supersedes BS ISO 35482:2009, which is withdrawn. BS ISO 35482:2020

includes some technical changes with respect to BS ISO 35482:2009. These include:

  • The term “flange thickness” has been introduced in Clause 3
  • Table 1 has been updated
  • Several figures have been revised
  • A new Table 3 “Thin-walled half bearings with flange — Distance to measuring position ach” has been introduced
