What is ISO 121302 about?

ISO 121302 is the second part of the multi-series of International Standard that is applicable to the plain bearings on hydrodynamic plain tilting pad thrust bearings under steady-state conditions.

ISO 121302 specifies the derivation of mathematical functions to be applied when calculating tilting pad thrust bearings.

Note: ISO 121302 is not applicable to heavily loaded tilting pad thrust bearings.

Who is ISO 121302 for?

ISO 121302 on tilting pad thrust bearings is relevant to:

  • Manufacturers and suppliers of tilting pad thrust bearings
  • Manufacturers of engines, compressors and steam turbines
  • Power plants
  • Turbo engineering industries
  • Electrical and civil engineers

Why should you use ISO 121302?

Plain bearings are used for sliding, rotating, oscillating or reciprocating motion. Plain bearings support and guide moving components inside the engine. In this regard, tilting pad thrust bearings are components that have greater load-bearing capacity.

ISO 12130-2 provides guidelines for the calculation of tilting pad thrust bearings, allowing you to accurately assess its operational efficiency and performance.

ISO 12130-2 covers calculations and formulae for value of load-carrying capacity, value of friction, relative lubricant flow rate, relative pressure centre coordinate or tilting pad supporting point and effective dynamic viscosity of the lubricant.

As the buyer, ISO 12130-2, an in-depth assessment and calculation is vital to determine the extent of power loss, friction, axial load, that has a significant impact on overall performance of the end-application. Ultimately, ISO 12130-2 can be your one-stop guide for design, optimisation and product development needs.
