What is ISO 79053- Bearing fatigue of a metallic multilayer bearing material about?

ISO 7905 is an International Standard that discusses the bearing fatigue of plain bearings.

ISO 79053 is the third part of the series that specifies a method for the determination of the endurance limit in fatigue of plain strips of multilayer bearing materials.

Who is ISO 79053- Bearing fatigue of a metallic multilayer bearing material for?

ISO 79053 on plain bearings is relevant to:

  • Manufacturers of plain bearings
  • Mechanical engineers
  • Product design engineers
  • Quality control and testing authorities

Why should you use ISO 79053- Bearing fatigue of a metallic multilayer bearing material?

Fatigue in bearings is a one of the failure modes that can either be subsurface initiated fatigue or suraface initiated fatigue. The former is caused by repeated stress changes, crack propagation, spalling, etc. Meanwhile, latter is caused by reduced lubrication regime, surface distress and burnishing or glazing. For a manufacturer, identifying these failure modes is essential to maintain and/or improve the service-life of the bearing.

ISO 79053 specifies a method for the determination of the endurance limit in fatigue of plain strips of multilayer bearing materials.

ISO 79053 additionally provides the opportunity of studying the influence on the strips of hydraulic pressure and variable temperature.
