What is BS EN 15507 Transport packaging for dangerous goods about?

This European standard helps its users to reduce the testing procedures for packaging materials without compromising on its quality. BS EN 15507 specifies material parameters, test requirements and procedures for the comparative testing of polyethylene grades of high molecular weight high-density polyethylene (PE-HDHMW) and medium molecular weight high-density polyethylene (PE-HD-MMW), used for the manufacture of packaging and IBCs for the transport of dangerous goods. BS EN 15507 is intended to be used in conjunction with selective testing for packaging for liquids.

Note1: BS EN 15507 is not intended to be used for comparative testing of recycled plastics material.

Note2: BS EN 15507 is intended to be used in conjunction with one or more of the international regulations set out in the Bibliography.

Who is BS EN 15507 Transport packaging for dangerous goods for?

BS EN 15507 on transport packaging for dangerous goods is useful for:

  • Manufacturers of dangerous goods
  • Packaging companies
  • Shipping companies
  • Testing facilities
  • Safety regulation authorities

Why should you use BS EN 15507 Transport packaging for dangerous goods

When a manufacturer of a plastics packaging or IBC wants to change to a new grade of high-density polyethylene for its manufacture, he/she might have to test every type of container in the grade individually.

BS EN 15507 provides guidance on requirements and test procedures for comparative testing of polyethylene grades of high and medium molecular weight high-density polyethylene, used for manufacturing packaging and IBCs for the transport of dangerous goods. These specific material parameters relate to the test procedures described in the standards: ISO 13274:2013 and ISO 16495:2013.

Overall, the guidelines of BS EN 15507 help you to eliminate or reduce the requirement to carry out the full test procedures described each time a new grade of high-density polyethylene is used for the manufacture of the same design type.

What’s changed since the last update?
