What is BS EN IEC 602865Matrix trays about?

BS EN IEC 602865 is an international standard that discusses packaging of components for automatic handling.

BS EN IEC 602865 is the fifth part of the multi-series on matrix trays.

BS EN IEC 602865 describes the common dimensions, tolerances, and characteristics of the tray. It includes only those dimensions that are essential for the handling of the trays for the stated purpose and for placing or removing components from the trays.

Note: Matrix trays listed in Annex A that do not conform to the design rules set forth herein shall be considered as "non-standard trays" and are not preferred for use.

Who is BS EN IEC 602865Matrix trays for?

BS EN IEC 602865 on matrix trays is used by:

  • Manufacturers of matrix trays
  • Product designers
  • Manufacturers of electronic equipment and components
  • Manufacturers of storage equipment
  • Electronics industry

Why should you use BS EN IEC 602865Matrix trays?

Matrix trays are single-use plastic carriers that are used to transport integrated chips and circuit board components during automated Printed Circuit Board testing and assembly operations. They are designed to facilitate the transport and handling of electronic components during their testing, baking, transport/storage, and final mounting by automatic placement equipment. The generic rules for their design are given in BS EN IEC 60286-5.

Packaging entails material selection, manufacture, filling, and management of finished packages.

Material recommendations are provided in BS EN IEC 60286-5 to avoid component damage during handling, loading, baking, testing, shipping, and placement operations.

BS EN IEC 602865 provides you with the appropriate dimensions of continuous packaging tape.

BS EN IEC 602865also specifies the requirements of packaging for components with the handling of the trays to ensure the packaging does not compromise on the functionality of your products.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN IEC 602865:2018 supersedes BS EN 602865:2004+A1:2009, which is withdrawn. BS EN IEC 602865:2018 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 602865:2004+A1:2009. These include:

  • The generic rules for the design of matrix trays are given in this document. Newly developed trays that follow these rules will not be listed individually. Only those trays which conform to the design rules set forth herein are classified as "standard trays" and are thus preferred for use
  • An update of the matrix trays, which do not conform to the design rules set forth herein, are considered as "non-standard trays" and are not preferred for use, is listed in Annex A
