What is BS EN 62219 - Overhead electrical conductors about?

BS EN 62219 specifies the electrical and mechanical characteristics of concentric lay, overhead conductors of wires formed or shaped before, during or after stranding, made of combinations of any of the following metal wires:

  • Hard aluminium as per IEC 60889 designated A1
  • Hard aluminium as per IEC 60889 designated A1F wire shaped before stranding
  • Hard aluminium alloy as per IEC 60104 designated A2 or A3
  • Hard aluminium alloy as per IEC 60104 designated A2F or A3F shaped before stranding
  • Regular strength steel, designated S1A or S1B, where A and B are zinc coating classes
  • Corresponding respectively to classes 1 and 2
  • High strength steel, designated S2A or S2B
  • Extra high strength steel, designated S3A
  • Aluminium clad steel, designated SA

Who is BS EN 62219 - Overhead electrical conductors for?

BS EN 62219 on overhead electrical conductors is useful for:

  • Electrical component manufacturers
  • Wire manufacturers
  • Conductor manufacturers
  • Quality control personnel

Why should you use BS EN 62219 - Overhead electrical conductors?

Lay length is defined as the distance required to complete one revolution of the strand around the diameter of the conductor. When a conductor has more than one layer, it usually refers to the lay length of the outer layer.

BS EN 62219 provides you with a designation system to identify stranded conductors made of formed aluminium, with or without steel wires. BS EN 62219 also provides you with the requirements for stranded conductors. BS EN 62219 also provides you with a test for design. BS EN 62219 guides you with packing and marking.

BS EN 62219 helps you manufacture high-quality formed wire, concentric lay, and stranded conductors.
