What is BS EN 62922 – Organic light emitting diode about?

BS EN 62922 is a European standard that discusses the performance requirements of organic light emitting diode (OLED) panels for general lighting. Organic Light-Emitting Diode - a technology that uses LEDs in which the light is produced by organic molecules. These organic LEDs are used to create what are considered to be the world’s best display panels.

BS EN 62922 specifies the performance requirements of OLED tiles and panels for use on DC supplies up to 120 V or AC supplies up to 50 V at 50 Hz or 60 Hz for indoor and similar general lighting purposes.

Who is BS EN 62922 – Organic light emitting diode for?

BS EN 62922 on organic light emitting diode panels (OLED) applies to:

  • Manufacturer of OLED lights
  • Quality testing personnel
  • Electrical engineers

Why should you use BS EN 62922 – Organic light emitting diode?

OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode. OLED light technology, as opposed to OLED display, is primarily used for general lighting and automotive applications. It is favourable for these applications due to its homogeneous light emission and ultra-thin, lightweight form factor, among other features.

BS EN 62922 lets you deliver good quality Organic light-emitting diode OLED panel light, by providing tests that involve OLED panel in the horizontal mounting position with the surface-emitting the largest fraction of luminous flux directed upwards unless specified otherwise by the manufacturer. The mounting position is recorded in BS EN 62922. If all surfaces are intended to emit the same luminous flux, the orientation is at the discretion of the test laboratory. The operating position is maintained during the entire test.

Luminous flux, or luminous power, is the measure of the perceived power of light. BS EN 62922 provides the maintenance factor for luminous flux which is obtained from the value at rated life expressed as a percentage of the initial value. An accelerated life test is used to estimate the lifetime of an OLED light source. If an accelerated life test is used to estimate the lifetime, then the estimation method with detailed measurement conditions has been provided by the manufacturer.

As a user of BS EN 62922, you can be ensured of the performance required for the Organic light emitting diode panels for general lighting.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 62922:2017+A1:2021 supersedes BS EN 62922:2017, which is withdrawn. BS EN 62922:2017+A1:2021 includes:

  • Requirements: the roman type
  • Test specifications: italic type
