What is BS EN IEC 60793‑2-50 - Optical fibres about?
BS EN IEC 60793 is a series on optical fibres. Optical fibre is a flexible, transparent fibre made by drawing glass or plastic to a diameter slightly thicker than that of human hair. BS EN IEC 60793‑2-50 is applicable to fibre categories B-652, B-653, B-654, B-655, B-656 and B-657. These fibres are used or can be incorporated in information transmission equipment and optical fibre cables.
BS EN IEC 60793-2-50 specifies three types of requirements apply to these fibres:
- General requirements
- Specific requirements common to the class b single-mode fibres
- Requirements applicable to individual fibre categories or specific applications
Who is BS EN IEC 60793-2-50 - Optical fibres for?
BS EN IEC 60793-2-50 on optical fibres are applicable for:
- Telecommunication equipment manufacturers
- Telecommunication component manufacturers
- Design engineers
- Quality control personnel
- Research and development facilities
Why should you use BS EN IEC 60793-2-50 - Optical fibres?
An optical fibre is a cylindrical dielectric waveguide that transmits light along its axis through the process of total internal reflection. BS EN IEC 60793-2-50 implementation can provide a transmission rate in addition to nearly 50 times longer distance than a multi-mode fibre which allows you to transmit the data for a longer distance with lesser loss and high quality of data at the end of the receiver.
Fast transmission speed, increased bandwidth capacity and less attenuation of light can be achieved by applying BS EN IEC 60793-2-50. Which lets you transmit a larger amount of data in less time for quality communication. Using BS EN IEC 60793-2-50 you can specify the requirements of class B single-mode fibres.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN IEC 60793-2-50:2019 supersedes BS EN IEC 60793-2-50:2016, which is withdrawn and includes technical changes with respect to BS EN IEC 60793-2-50:2016. These include:
- Introduction of revised naming conventions which better match with those found in ITU-T recommendations G.652, G.653, G.654, G.655, G.656 and G.657
- Further details on the requirements of 200 microns coated single-mode fibres
- 652, G.654, G.657 including revised chromatic dispersion specifications
- Descriptions of fibre types have been added to Annexes A to F
