What is BS EN 61290-7-1 - Optical amplifiers about?

BS EN 61290-7-1 applies to optical amplifiers (OAs) using active fibres presently commercially available containing rare-earth dopants.

The object of BS EN 61290-7-1 is to establish uniform requirements for accurate and reliable measurements, by means of the filtered optical power meter test method, of the following OA parameters, as defined in IEC 61291-1

  • Out-of-band insertion loss
  • Out-of-band reverse insertion loss

Who is BS EN 61290-7-1 - Optical amplifiers for?

BS EN 61290-7-1 on optical amplifiers is helpful for:

  • Telecommunication industry
  • Military
  • Broadcasting companies
  • Internet service providers

Why should you use BS EN 61290-7-1 - Optical amplifiers?

Having access to reliable guidelines is essential to prepare quality optical amplifiers. BS EN 61290-7-1 provides manufacturers with the requirements, tests and calculations which allows them to effectively manufacture and test optical amplifiers.

BS EN 61290-7-1 provides users with efficient and standardized optical amplifiers.

What has changed since the last update?

BS EN 61290-7-1:2007 supersedes EN 61290-7-1:1998. The main significant changes in BS EN 61290-7-1:2007 with respect to EN 61290-7-1:1998 are the following:

  • The title has been changed to be consistent with other documents in the EN 61290 series
  • The applicability has been extended to all commercially available optical amplifiers not just optical fiber amplifiers
  • Clause 9, EMC, has been added
