What is ISO 22510 about?
ISO 22510 discusses the integration of KNX protocol implementations on top of Internet protocol (IP) networks called KNX net/IP.
ISO 22510 defines a standard protocol for KNX devices connected to an IP network called KNX net/IP devices. This IP network acts as a fast backbone in KNX installations.
Note 1: Under ISO 22510 KNX net/IP differentiates between unicast and multicast services.
KNX net/IP unicast services are used to connect a single client to a single KNX net/IP server while KNX net/IP multicast services are mainly used to connect different KNX sub-networks using IP communication on the KNX backbone.
Who is ISO 22510 for?
ISO 22510 on KNX net/IP communication is useful for:
- KNX net/IP developers
- Home and building electronic system (HBES) manufacturers and suppliers
- Software engineers
- Construction companies
Why should you use ISO 22510?
KNX net/IP is a protocol designed to transport KNX HBES control frames over an IP network.
It is used as an infrastructure backbone for connecting KNX sub-networks as a communication medium for KNX-IP devices and to provide IP based services for clients because IP network infrastructures are inexpensive, available almost everywhere and the distance of two communication parties on an IP network is virtually unlimited.
IP presents an opportunity to expand building control communication by providing:
- Remote configuration
- Remote operation
- Fast interface from LAN to KNX and vice versa
- WAN connection between KNX systems
- An interface to super ordinate building management and energy management systems
ISO 22510 is intended for the design of new buildings and the retrofit of existing buildings in terms of acceptable indoor environment, practical energy conservation and efficiency.
ISO 22510 helps in connecting KNX devices to an IP network called KNX net/IP devices and thus, helps in expanding building control communication.
ISO 22510 helps in developing a virtual control system for your buildings in order to make your buildings more practical and modern.
ISO 22510 helps the user in retrofitting existing buildings in terms of having an efficient communication system which is both easily available and inexpensive.
As a result, you will be able to enhance building control communication for improved safety and as an effective tool for maintaining quality management systems and IT applications in building and construction industry.
