What is BS EN IEC 625416 about?

BS EN IEC 625416 is a sixth part of the OPC unified architecture multi-series. BS EN IEC 625416 deals with mappings for OPC unified architecture.

BS EN IEC 625416 specifies the OPC unified architecture (OPC UA) mapping between the security model described in IEC TR 625412, the abstract service definitions specified in IEC 625414, the data structures defined in IEC 625415 and the physical network protocols that can be used to implement the OPC UA specification.

Who is BS EN IEC 625416 for?

BS EN IEC 625416 on OPC unified architecture mapping is applicable to:

  • Organization shifting to service-oriented architecture
  • Software development teams
  • Cybersecurity teams

Why should you use BS EN IEC 625416?

OPC unified architecture is an interoperability standard for transferring data securely and reliably in industrial automation and other industries. It is a platform-independent, service-oriented architecture that ensures a smooth flow of data across devices from various manufacturers.

BS EN IEC 625416 provides extensive information on data encoding, message security protocols, transport protocols, normative contracts which allows you to integrate data from different data servers into a single OPC unified architecture.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN IEC 625416:2020 supersedes BS EN 625416:2015, which will be withdrawn.

Changes in BS EN IEC 625416:2020 include –

  • Encoding - added JSON encoding for PubSub (non-reversible), added JSON encoding for Client/Server (reversible) and added support for optional fields in structures
  • Transport mappings - added WebSocket secure connection – WSS, added support for reverse connectivity, added support for session-less service invocation in HTTPS
  • Deprecated Transport (missing support on most platforms): SOAP/HTTP with WS-SecureConveration (all encodings)
  • Added support for Unions to NodeSet Schema
  • Added batch operations to add/delete nodes to/from NodeSet Schema
