What is ISO 207691 - Non-destructive testing about?

ISO 207691 is a multi-part series of international standards that discusses radiographic inspection of corrosion and deposits in the pipe by X-rays and gamma rays for non-destructive testing.

ISO 207691 specifies fundamental techniques of film and digital radiography with the object of enabling satisfactory and repeatable results to be obtained economically. The techniques are based on generally recognized practice and fundamental theory of the subject.

ISO 207691 applies to the radiographic examination of steel pipes for service induced flaws such as corrosion pitting, generalized corrosion and erosion. Besides its conventional meaning, “pipe” as used in ISO 207691 is understood to cover other cylindrical bodies such as tubes, penstocks, boiler drums and pressure vessels.

ISO 207691 covers the tangential inspection technique for detection and through-wall sizing of wall loss, including with the source: a) on the pipe centre line and b) offset from pipe centre line by the pipe radius.

ISO 207691 applies to tangential radiographic inspection using industrial radiographic film techniques, computed radiography (CR) and digital detector arrays (DDA)

Note : Weld inspection for typical welding process-induced is not covered in ISO 207691 but weld inspection is included for corrosion/erosion type flaws.

Who is ISO 207691 - Non-destructive testing for?

ISO 207691 on tangential radiographic inspection for non-destructive testing applies to:

  • Manufacturing of radiographic machine
  • Companies dealing with inspection of corrosion and deposits in pipes

Why should you use ISO 207691 - Non-destructive testing?

The tangential radiographic inspection is a method that allows measuring of metal and insulation thickness, detecting their separation, searching internal foreign deposits, etc.

The purpose of ISO 207691 is to provide a tangential radiographic inspection which contains a digital image recording, storage, processing and viewing which can process multiple things such as scan and read out the image, multi radiograph technique, calibration of DDAs, Bad pixel interpolation which helps in processing the tangential radiographic inspection in a standardized manner.

With obedience and compliance to ISO 207691, you can perform the inspection to detect flaws in weld quality, castings, structures, and composites. In this manner, you can be ensured that the product is free from any sort of defects.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN ISO 207691:2018 supersedes BS EN 164071:2014, which is withdrawn.
