What is ISO 108937 - Digital radiographic testing about?

ISO 10893 is a series of international standards on Non-destructive testing of steel tubes that discusses the best procedures and test methods of digital radiographic testing. ISO 108937 is the seventh part of a series of documents on Non-destructive testing. ISO 108937 specifies the requirements for digital radiographic X-ray testing by either computed radiography (CR) or radiography with digital detector arrays (DDAs) of the longitudinal or helical weld seams of automatic fusion arc-welded steel tubes for the detection of imperfections. ISO 108937 specifies acceptance levels and calibration procedures.

ISO 108937 is also applicable to the testing of circular hollow sections.

Who is ISO 108937 - Digital radiographic testing for?

ISO 108937 on  Non-destructive testing of steel tubes is beneficial for

  • Industrial radiographer
  • Manufacturer of steel tubes
  • Industrial digital x-ray machine manufacturer

Why should you use ISO 108937 - Digital radiographic testing

Digital radiographic testing makes use of X-rays, produced by an X-ray tube, or gamma rays, produced by a radioactive isotope. The basic principle of radiographic inspection of welds is the same as that for medical radiography.

ISO 108937 provides guidance on requirements, test methods, test results of digital radiographic X-ray testing.

As a user of ISO 108937, you can be ensured of requirements for digital radiographic testing. With obedience and compliance to ISO 108937, you can efficiently detect undercuts on the inside and outside welds, incomplete penetration in welding, cracks, and other imperfections.

With ISO 108937 you can be ensured that the products consistently meet and exceed quality assurance targets.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN ISO 108937:2019 supersedes BS EN ISO 108937:2011, which is withdrawn.

The main changes compared with the previous edition are as follows:

  • Terms and definitions from ISO 176362 have been included
  • A safety warning for X and gamma rays has been added
  • The symbols for mathematical formula have been changed in accordance with the ISO/IEC Directives
  • “Contact Technique” has been deleted from the test method
  • The requirements for duplex wire IQI position have been added
  • A reference to ISO 176362 for the calibration of ddas has been added
