What is BS EN 12058 - Natural stone slabs for floors and stairs about ?  

BS EN 12058 is a European standard on natural stone products that are hand-selected from the best, most consistent sources for durability and beauty than many artificial products, often lasting for decades with very little maintenance. 

BS EN 12058 specifies requirements for flat natural stone slabs used as paving units for internal (including enclosed public transport premises) and/or external uses in floors and stairs including skirtings. 

Note: BS EN 12058 does not cover mineral aggregates and artificial agglomerated stone material and does not cover installation.

What’s changed since the last update?  

BS EN 12058:2015 supersedes BS EN 12058:2004. BS EN 12058:2015 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 12058:2004. These include: 

  • Nominal thickness tolerances changed 
  • Durability, skid resistance, direct airborne sound insulation, thermal conductivity, the release of dangerous substances added to requirements 
  • Sampling at the point of delivery added to the sampling 
  • Assessment and verification of constancy of performance added 
  • Annex ZA substantially changed.
