What is ISO 125 about?  

ISO 125 is an international standard for natural rubber that specifies the test method which is helpful in  preventing coagulation either electrometrically or with methyl red. 

ISO 125 specifies a method for the determination of the alkalinity of natural rubber latex concentrate. 

Note: The method is not necessarily suitable for latices from natural sources other than Hevea brasiliensis or for synthetic rubber latices, compounded latex, vulcanized latex or artificial dispersions of rubber. 

Note: A method for the determination of the alkalinity of polychloroprene latex is specified in ISO 13773.

Why should you use ISO 125?  

The alkalinity of latex is the weight percentage of alkali present.  

ISO 125 guidelines helps in recognizing reagents of analytical quality. The potentiometric titration helps in inserting the electrode of the pH meter while performing the test. With the help of ISO 125, you can preserve the latex concentrate with ammonia or potassium hydroxide and calculate the alkalinity of natural rubber latex concentrate.  

ISO 125 specifies the test procedure and apparatus which helps in conducting the tests. This test method is useful in determining the alkalinity and prevents coagulation either electrometrically or with methyl red of natural rubber latex. 

What’s changed since the last update?  

BS ISO 125:2020 supersedes BS ISO 125:2011. BS ISO 125:2020 includes some technical changes with respect to BS ISO 125:2011. These include: 

  • Addition of 5.2.1 on the standardization of sulfuric acid 
  • Update of 8.3 to include titration with sulfuric acid 
  • Update of the precision statement in Annex A
