What is CEN/TS 17629 about?
CEN/TS 17629 specifies a method for measuring the scratch resistance and failure behaviour for advanced materials and coatings by means of nano- and micro- scale scratch experiments. The method provides data on both the physical damage to test-pieces and the friction generated between the probe and the test-piece under single pass and multiple pass conditions. The force range in these tests is from 1 μN up to 2 N.
Note: The test method is not applicable to coatings as defined in EN ISO 4618 [18].
Who is CEN/TS 17629 for?
CEN/TS 17629 on nanotechnologies is applicable to:
- Electronics
- Solar Cells
- Batteries
- Aerospace
- Fuels
- Chemical Sensors
- Sporting Goods
- Fabric
Why should you use CEN/TS 17629?
Applying methods of nano- and micro-scale scratch experiment guidelines from CEN/TS 17629 helps improve the quality and efficiency of advanced materials and coatings so that they will withstand scratch, damage, or failure.
Because advanced materials and coatings are costly in terms of manufacture and initial cost, it is critical that they have durability so that end users can use them for a longer period. Implementing guidelines of CEN/TS 17629 contributes to the long service life and durability of advanced materials products and coatings.
