What is BS EN 1866-2 – Mobile fire extinguishers about?
BS EN 1866-2 discusses mobile fire extinguishers. The aim of the BS EN 1866 series is to ensure the correct operation of mobile extinguishing systems by providing the manufacturer with the best industry requirements for safe and reliable use of mobile fire extinguishers, such that they play a positive role during fire emergency. BS EN 1866-2 is the second part of the BS EN 1866 series of standards that specifies the rules of design, type testing, manufacturing and inspection during the manufacturing of mobile fire extinguishers with metallic bodies, which comply with the requirements of EN 1866-1, as far as pressure resistance is concerned. BS EN 1866-2 applies to mobile fire extinguishers of which the maximum allowable pressure PS is lower than or equal to 30 bar and containing non-explosive, non-flammable, non-toxic and non-oxidizing fluids or powder.
Note: BS EN 1866-2 does not apply to carbon dioxide fire extinguishers.
Who is BS EN 1866-2 - Mobile fire extinguishers for?
BS EN 1866-2 on gas extinguishing systems is useful for:
- Mobile fire extinguisher manufacturers and suppliers
- Quality control department
- Safety departments
- Entity involved in fire safety engineering
- Local authorities
- Regulatory bodies
Why should you use BS EN 1866-2 - Mobile fire extinguishers?
Mobile fire extinguishers are used for effective protection against a variety of industrial fire risks where the risk is large and a longer application time is required). To prevent hazardous situations it is necessary that the extinguishing systems are designed and built as per industry performance requirements.
BS EN 1866-2 provides you with manufacturing and design requirements and test methods that can be followed while manufacturing mobile fire extinguishers. It shall ensure that the materials and components used in the fabrication of the mobile fire extinguisher are free from any defect likely to impair the safe use of the extinguisher.
After complete assembly of the mobile extinguisher, BS EN 1866-2 guides for a final inspection that shall be carried out to ensure that all parts comply with the approved design of the extinguisher and manufacturing records and that the assembly was carried out correctly.
