What is BSI Flex 1888 v2.0 about?
The standard provides a framework to consider minimal risk events (MRX) to enable an automated driving system (ADS) to identify and perform minimal risk manoeuvres (MRM), to reach a minimal risk condition (MRC), when the system degrades or fails.
Adopting this guide will help minimize overall risk and support automated vehicle safety.
What does the standard include?
This BSI Flex covers:
- functionality or manoeuvres beyond the normal expected behaviour of an ADS;
- the minimal risk event (MRX) concept, combining MRM, MRC, and MRX trigger;
- categorizing MRMs and MRCs by the level of risk involved;
- considering the trigger event and the combined risk associated with MRM and MRC in selecting the appropriate strategy.
Version 2 includes updates on the relationship with other standards, human requests for MRX, alternative responses to degraded functionality, and method for communication of incidents.
Who is it for?
This BSI Flex supports organizations developing, operating, regulating, and certifying AVs or an ADS.
It might also be of use to road authorities, local authorities, emergency services, testbeds, vehicle agencies, and insurers.
