What is BS 2782-3: Method 360C - Determination of the tear resistance of flexible unsupported plastics film about?

BS 2782 is a series on methods of testing plastics. Plastics are a wide range of synthetic or semi-synthetic materials that use polymers as the main ingredient.

BS 2782-3: Method 360C describes a method for the determination of the tear resistance of flexible unsupported plastics film and sheeting. The method is suitable for flexible film and sheeting up to approximately 2.5 mm in thickness.

Who is BS 2782-3: Method 360C - Determination of the tear resistance of flexible unsupported plastics film for?

BS 2782-3: Method 360C on the determination of the tear resistance of flexible unsupported plastics film is useful for:

  • Plastic component manufacturers
  • Plastic equipment manufacturers
  • Design engineers
  • Quality control personnel

Why should you use BS 2782-3: Method 360C - Determination of the tear resistance of flexible unsupported plastics film

Plastics typically are made through human industrial systems. Most modern plastics are derived from fossil fuel-based chemicals like natural gas or petroleum; however, recent industrial methods use variants made from renewable materials, such as corn or cotton derivatives. BS 2782-3: Method 360C states that the tension is applied to the ends of a test specimen so shaped that it tears across its width, by the extension of a right-angled discontinuity in one of its long edges to the opposite edge. The tear strength is recorded as the maximum recorded tension in newtons divided by the thickness of the test piece in millimetres. The test report includes A complete identification of the material tested, including type, source, manufacturer’s code numbers, form, principal dimensions, previous history, etc. A reference to this British Standard method, i.e., BS 2782: Method 360C. The conditioning and test atmosphere were used. The procedure used for thickness determination, the tear strength of the sample and the individual test results. Using BS 2782-3: Method 360C you can describe a method for the determination of the tear resistance of flexible unsupported plastics film and sheeting.
