What is BS 5173-102.4 - Methods of test for Rubber and plastics hoses and hose assemblies about?

BS 5173-102.4 describes a method of determination of the volumetric expansion of hydraulic hoses. The basic principles are similar to those described in BS 5173-102.2 but the test described in this Section is more appropriate to hydraulic hoses. It is a specialized test and should be carried out only at the specific request of the purchaser.

NOTE 1 This Section of BS 5173 does not specify the test pressure at which the test will be carried out. The test pressure will be specified in the appropriate hose product specification.

NOTE 2 The titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back page.

Who is BS 5173-102.4- Methods of test for Rubber and plastics hoses and hose assemblies for?

BS 5173-102.4 on the volumetric expansion of hydraulic hoses and hoses assemblies is for:

  • Rubber and plastic hoses manufacturers and suppliers
  • PVC hose pipe manufacturers and suppliers
  • Entities dealing with plastic hose assembly and hoses
  • Test providers for plastic and rubber hoses

Why should you use BS 5173-102.4 - Methods of test for Rubber and plastics hoses and hose assemblies?

Rubber hoses are designed for specific fluid, temperature, and pressure ranges and are provided with various specifications.

BS 5173-102.4 provides you with methods and test procedures for determining the volumetric expansion of hydraulic hoses and hose assemblies that helps you to check whether they will withstand the differential pressure encountered in service resulting from reduced pressure within the hose or hose assembly.

The test methodologies given in BS 5173-102.4 enable you to examine the hose for any signs of deformation or delamination of reinforcement or lining, which contributes a lot in maintaining the high quality and efficient functioning of rubber, and plastic hose, and hoses assemblies.
