This British Standard specifies a method of test to be used for small unprotected cables where the requirements of BS EN 50200 are modified to use a flame temperature of ( 930 0 + 40 ) ° C °C and the application of water spray. Compliance with the requirements of BS 5839‑1:2002, 26.2e) may be demonstrated using this method.

It is emphasized that the fire tests do not assess a fire hazard, nor can the results of the fire tests alone guarantee safety. They only provide information to assist in the assessment of the suitability of a cable for a given application.
