What is BS EN 61580-8- Waveguide power holding capability about?

BS EN 61580-8 is an international standard that provides the methods of measurement for waveguides.

BS EN 61580-8 describes the measurement of the power holding of a waveguide using a multiplying loop. In this case, the input power required is much less (– 10 dB to – 12 dB) than when the WUT is directly connected to a high-power source. Loop power is measured via coupler PS, and reverse power via PR.

Who is BS EN 61580-8- Waveguide power holding capability for

BS EN 61580-8 on waveguide power holding capability is relevant to:

  • Manufacturers of the communication equipment
  • Manufacturers of fibre optic devices
  • Manufacturers of optical fibre
  • Fibre optic technicians
  • Fibre optic installers
  • Electromagnetic engineers
  • Communications engineers
  • Testing authorities

Why should you use BS EN 61580-8- Waveguide power holding capability?

A waveguide is an electromagnetic feed line used in microwave communications, broadcasting, and radar installations.

BS EN 61580-8 gives you a methodology to measure the power holding capability for waveguides. It gives you detailed information about the test equipment needed to perform the test, explains the principle of the test, and helps the users to execute the calculations and test procedure for checking power holding capability.
