What is ISO 10113 about? 

ISO 10113 is an international standard that provides technical specifications for the determination of the plastic strain ratio in metallic sheets and strips. 

ISO 10113 specifies a method for determining the plastic strain ratio of flat products (sheet and strip) made of metallic materials.  

Who is ISO 10113 for? 

ISO 10113 on the determination of plastic strain ratio in sheets and strips is applicable to: 

  • Manufacturers of metallic components 
  • Dealers and importers of metallic components 
  • Test housing of metallic components 

Why should you use ISO 10113? 

When sheet metal is subjected to a tensile or compressive force, the plastic strain ratio is used to measure its ability to resist thinning or thickening. When metallic materials are subjected to stress, it is favourable if it loses only a little area which means, it has a high plastic strain value. 

ISO 10113 helps you determine the plastic strain ratio in metallic sheets and strips by providing you with three approaches: Manual method(without using any length extensometer), semi-automatic method, and automatic method. 

The guidelines provided in ISO 10113 enable you to determine the plastic strain ratio for metal sheets, thereby helping you to identify the metal sheets resistance to tensile and compression forces. 

What’s changed since the last update? 

BS EN ISO 10113:2020 supersedes BS EN ISO 10113:2014, which is now withdrawn. 

Changes in BS EN ISO 10113:2020 include – 

  • A new structure 
  • The addition of the semi-automatic method (see 8.3) 
  • Clear differentiation between the manual, the semi-automatic and the automatic methods (see 8.2, 8.3 and 8.4) 
  • The addition of the methods of investigating sources of errors in r-value determination (see Annex A) 
  • Correction of the description of the test in the fourth paragraph of 8.4.2
