What is ISO 1143 about?
ISO 1143 specifies method for rotating bar bending fatigue testing of metallic materials. The tests are conducted at room temperature or elevated temperature in air, the specimen being rotated.
NOTE –
ISO 1143 does not apply to fatigue tests on notched specimens
Who is ISO 1143 for?
ISO 1143 on rotating bar bending fatigue testing is applicable to:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of rotating bars
- Manufacturers of machinery components
- Services involved in inspection and testing of heavy machinery
- Test providers for rotating bars/metallic materials
Why should you use ISO 1143?
Metal fatigue testing is used to assess the quality of the materials used and get useful insight into design parameters. Metal fatigue testing is also used by engineers to prolong the fatigue life of parts and components.
ISO 1143 provides you comprehensive guidance on testing, shape and size of specimen, accuracy, testing procedure and test report which enhances the quality of material and increases their fatigue life.
ISO 1143 gives you the machining procedures such as heat treatment test, machining criteria, surface condition, dimensional handling which will improve their strength and load carrying capacity.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 1143:2021 supersedes ISO 1143:2010, which is now withdrawn.
BS ISO 1143:2021 changes with respect to previous edition include –
- Inclusion of measurement uncertainty
- Example of test report
