What is BS EN IEC 62153416 about?

BS EN IEC 62153 series focuses on metallic communication cables and other passive components test methods. The electronic component which does not need any external power supply for its operation, or only pass the electric current is called a passive component. BS EN IEC 62153416 ensures electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of metallic communication cables and other components with a triaxial test setup. BS EN IEC 62153416 describes a method to extrapolate the test results of transfer impedance to higher frequencies and the test results of screening attenuation to lower frequencies when measured with the triaxial set-up.

This method is applicable for homogenous screens, i.e., screens having a transfer impedance directly proportional to length. The transfer impedance can have any frequency behaviour, i.e., it could have a behaviour where it does not increase with 20 dB per decade as observed for screens made of a foil and a braid.

Who is BS EN IEC 62153416 for?

BS EN IEC 62153416 on metallic cables and other passive components is useful for:

  • Telecommunication equipment and component manufacturers
  • Design engineer
  • Quality control personnel
  • Research and development facilities

Why should you use BS EN IEC 62153416?

Passive components are the ones that do not need any external power supply for their operation and cannot amplify the electrical signal. The triaxial test set-up described in BS EN IEC 62153416 is used to measure both the surface transfer impedance and the screening attenuation. BS EN IEC 62153416 describes how to extrapolate the test results of transfer impedance to higher frequencies and the test results of screening attenuation to lower frequencies when measured on communication cables, connectors and components with a triaxial test set-up in accordance with IEC 62153-4-3, IEC 62153-4-4, and IEC 62153-4-15.

Following BS EN IEC 62153416 different test procedures and measurement guidelines, you can ensure the electromagnetic compatibility of communication cables, connectors and components. BS EN IEC 62153416 protects connectors and communication cable assemblies from any hazards and improves metallic communication cables durability and long service -life.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN IEC 62153416:2021 supersedes BS IEC 62153416:2016. BS EN IEC 62153416:2021 has replaced the conversion formula which was limited to a matched DUT by a new conversion formula suitable for any load conditions with respect to BS IEC 62153416:2016.
