What is BS EN 60297-3-106 - Dimensions of subracks and chassis about?

Electronic systems based on chassis design have become one of the most important platforms used for servers, industrial electronics, information technology (IT) and telecommunication equipment. The IEC 60297 series of standards provides definitions of mechanical structure and dimensions for 19 in cabinets and racks and their compatible subracks and chassis. The combination of 19 in based cabinets or racks and subracks and chassis is broadly applied to all industrial electronic fields in the world.

BS EN 60297-3-106 specifies dimensions for mounting flanges of 19 in subracks or chassis that are to be mounted into metric cabinets or racks. Additional dimensions for subracks or chassis are according to the IEC 60297 series, and for metric cabinets or racks to the IEC 60917 series.

EMC, seismic, climatic and environmental requirements and tests, are defined in the IEC 61587 series. The drawings used in BS EN 60297-3-106 do not intend to indicate product design, only the specific dimensions that should be used. The terminology used in BS EN 60297-3-106  complies with IEC 60917-1.

Who is BS EN 60297-3-106 - Dimensions of subracks and chassis for?

BS EN BS EN 60297-3-106 on the dimensions of subracks and chassis is useful for:

  • Manufacturers of electronic devices
  • Manufacturers of computers
  • Manufacturers of circuit boards
  • Manufacturers of automotive parts
  • Aerospace industries
  • Medical transportation
  • Product development teams
  • Maintenance and augmentation teams
  • Fault management teams
  • Quality control personnel
  • Regulatory authorities

Why should you use BS EN 60297-3-106 - Dimensions of subracks and chassis?

A chassis is a loadbearing framework of an artificial object, useful in the construction and function of embedded computing devices. Sub-racks are used for the reception of printed circuit boards and plug-in units in industries like telecom, test and measurement, transportation, aerospace etc. There are certain standardized specifications contributing to the performance of subracks and chassis.

BS EN 60297-3-106 discusses arrangement overview and definitions that depict a user-friendly idea of subracks and chassis. BS EN 60297-3-106 also provides users with dimensions for flanges of 19 in subracks or chassis applicable for mounting on metric cabinets or racks which contributes to the performance characteristics of subracks and chassis ensuring their reliability. The guidelines in BS EN 60297-3-106 help you perceive the dimensions of subracks and chassis that enable you to provide a superior quality product to your customers.
