What is PD CEN/TS 17308 - Materials produced from the end of life tyres about?

PD CEN/TS 17308 provides two different methods for the quantitative estimation of non-metallic content remaining adhered to the steel wire obtained from the recovery of materials from end-of-life tyres.

The pyrolysis method is considered as the reference method while the hydrostatic method is considered as an in-situ method.

PD CEN/TS 17308 includes sample collection and the preparation of representative samples based on a sampling plan for the purpose of their characterization.

Note 1: PD CEN/TS 17308 does not cover the operational performance or fitness for use of the materials which are deemed to be a function of agreements between the manufacturer and the customer.

Note 2: PD CEN/TS 17308 does not purport to address all the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. PD CEN/TS 17308 does not establish appropriate safety and health practices and does not determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to its use.

Who is PD CEN/TS 17308 - Materials produced from the end of life tyres for?

PD CEN/TS 17308 is benificial for:

  • Tyre manufacturer
  • Tyre recycling company
  • Manufacturer of steel wire
  • Metallurgist

Why should you use PD CEN/TS 17308 - Materials produced from the end of life tyres?

A tire is considered at the end of its life when it can no longer be used on vehicles (after having been retreaded or regrooved). End-of-life tyres are often granulated to ensure that the various materials within the individual tyre can be retrieved.  Steel wires are obtained by processing end-of-life tyres.

PD CEN/TS 17308 provide guidance on the determination of non-metallic content in steel wire, preparation of sampling plan and laboratory sample, the principle of correct sampling, determination by pyrolysis method, determination by hydrostatic method, calculation.

As a user of PD CEN/TS 17308, you can be ensured of two methods pyrolysis method and the hydrostatic method. With obedience and compliance to PD CEN/TS 17308, you can efficiently obtain steel wire from end-of-life tyres.

With the help of PD CEN/TS 17308, you can make use of old tyres in every possible way. With BS EN 755-2 you can efficiently perform the pyrolysis method and the hydrostatic method for obtaining steel wire for the old tyre.
