What is BS EN 14243-2- End-of-life tyres about ?

BS EN 14243 series discusses materials obtained from the end-of-life tyres. BS EN 14243-2 is the second part of a series of documents and an international standard for materials obtained from end-of-life tyres. BS EN 14243-2 specifies the test methods that help in determining the particle size distribution and impurities of granulates used in end-of-life tyres.

BS EN 14243-2 provides test methods for the determination of the particle size distribution of granulates and powders, produced from all categories of end-of-life tyres at all steps of the treatment processes as well as for the determination of impurities (including free steel and free textile content).

Who is BS EN 14243-2 - End-of-life tyres for ?

BS EN 14243-2 on materials obtained from end-of-life tyres is applicable to:

  • Tyre recycling industries
  • Tyre manufacturers
  • Tyre remoulding industries
  • Testing laboratories

Why should you use BS EN 14243-2 - End-of-life tyres ?

When a tyre is no longer safe or efficient to reuse, even if re-treaded, it is referred to as an "end-of-life tyre" that is waste and must be collected and recovered in specific factories, as well as for material recycling.

BS EN 14243-2 helps in classifying the size-reduced materials such as granulates and powders by measuring the particle size. The particle size analysis forms the basis of material grading. Sampling is useful in determining the characteristics of a material by obtaining representative samples from a lot of material.

BS EN 14243-2 is helpful in storing the samples in such a way that materials will not be lost during transportation and these materials are stored in dry and in sealed boxes. The sample preparation and sample division mentioned in BS EN 14243-2 helps in reducing a whole lot of samples into one sample based on sample division. The sieves analysis helps in choosing an appropriate number of sieves according to the size specification of the sample.

BS EN 14243-2 specifies the test methods that are useful in classifying particle size distribution granulates and powders that are obtained from the end-of-life tyres.
