What is PD IEC TS 626001 about? 

PD IEC TS 626001 is the first part of the multi-series European standard that defines the terms relevant to marine energy. For PD IEC TS 626001, sources of the ocean and marine renewable energy are taken to include primarily devices that convert wave, tidal and other water current energy into electrical energy, although other conversion methods, systems and products are included. 

PD IEC TS 626001 is intended to provide uniform terminology to facilitate communication between organizations and individuals in the marine energy industry and those who interact with them. 

Note: Terms relating to the conventional dam and tidal barrage, offshore wind, marine biomass, and salinity gradient energy conversion are not included in the scope of PD IEC TS 626001.

The aim of PD IEC TS 626001 is to present clear and consistent language that will aid the development of programs, projects, and future standards. 

What’s changed since the last update? 

PD IEC TS 626001:2020 supersedes PD IEC TS 626001:2011+A1:2019, 

which is withdrawn. PD IEC TS 626001:2020 includes some technical changes concerning PD IEC TS 626001:2011+A1:2019. These include: 

  • The required support cannot be obtained for the publication of an International Standard, despite repeated efforts 
  • The subject is still under technical development or where, for any other reason, there is the future but no immediate possibility of an agreement on an International Standard
