What is BS EN 331 - Ball valves and closed bottom taper plug valves about?

BS EN 331 describes ball valves and closed bottom taper plug valves, their construction, performance, and safety.

BS EN 331 provides a detailed explanation of the testing requirements and marking rules. It is the best industrial guidance available.

BS EN 331  applies to metallic valves not directly buried for domestic and commercial installations inside or outside of buildings, using gases of the first, second and third family and working up to 0,2 × 105 Pa, 0,5 × 105 Pa, 1 × 105Pa, 5 × 105 Pa and 20 × 105Pa and with temperature limits from – 5 °C or −20 °C to + 60 °C.

NOTE “Not directly buried” within the context of this standard means that valves below ground are not in direct contact with earth or other materials e.g. that they are in a protected encasement.

Who is BS EN 331 - Ball valves and closed bottom taper plug valves for?

BS EN 331 on ball valves and closed bottom taper plug valves is useful for:

  • Gas installation experts
  • Gas agencies
  • Valve manufacturing companies
  • Safety regulation department

Why should you use BS EN 331 - Ball valves and closed bottom taper plug valves

A ball valve is a shut off valve that controls the flow of a liquid or gas by using a rotary ball with a bore.

BS EN 331 provides requirements, methods for construction and performace of ball valves and closed bottom taper plug valves.

BS EN 331 helps you to ensure the performance and safety of ball valves and taper plug valves .

As a result of complying and obeying BS EN 331, you can maximize efficiency or effectiveness of machinery and manufacture a standardized, high-quality product, which will decrease chances of gas leaks both domestically and industrially and decrease the possibility of fire accidents.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 331:2015 supersedes BS EN 331:1998+A1:2010. BS EN 331:2015 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 331:1998+A1:2010. These include:
