What is BS EN IEC 63182-1 about?

BS EN IEC 63182-1 is the first part in a multi-series of documents that specifies the dimensions of magnetic powder cores. BS EN IEC 63182-1 includes magnetic powder cores which are widely used and referenced in industry, either because they are included in national standards, or because they are seen to have broad-based use in industry.

BS EN IEC 63182-1 also gives guidelines on the allowable limits of surface irregularities of magnetic powder cores. It is considered as a general specification useful in the dialogue between magnetic powder core manufacturers and users about surface irregularities.

Who is BS EN IEC 63182-1 for?

BS EN IEC 63182-1 on magnetic powder cores applied for the following:

  • Metal industry
  • Manufacturers of electrical applications
  • Mechanical engineers
  • Metallurgists

Why should you use BS EN IEC 63182-1?

The magnetic core is a specific design of magnetic material in a particular shape that possesses high magnetic permeability. It is made of ferromagnetic metal such as iron, or ferrimagnetic compounds such as ferrites. The high permeability, relative to the surrounding air, causes the magnetic field lines to be concentrated in the core material.

BS EN IEC 63182-1 is useful for constricting and guiding magnetic fields in electrical, electromechanical, and magnetic devices.

BS EN IEC 63182-1 ensures high resistivity, low hysteresis, and excellent inductance stability under both DC and AC conditions. Magnetics powder core materials are not pressed with an organic binder, so there is no thermal aging which makes it stronger and more permeable. Choosing the right product, with improved permeability, can enhance the performance, energy efficiency and reliability of the product end-use.
