What is BS EN 62722-2-1 – Luminaire performance about ?
BS EN 62722-2-1 is an international standard of the BS EN 62722 series that discusses the requirements for LED luminaires for luminaire performance. A luminaire is a complete lighting unit, comprised of a light source (lamp or lamps), together with the parts that distribute the light, position and protect the lamps, and connect the lamps to the power supply. The luminaire's function is to direct light to appropriate locations, without causing glare or discomfort.
BS EN 62722-2-1 specifies the performance requirements for LED luminaires, together with the test methods and conditions, required to show compliance with this standard. It applies to LED luminaires for general lighting purposes.
Note: BS EN 62722-2-1 does not cover Type C luminaires.

What’s changed since the last update ?
BS EN 62722-2-1:2016 supersedes DD IEC/PAS 62722-2-1:2011, which is withdrawn. It includes:
- The testing time is aligned with IEC 62717 and the option of 2000h is removed. Products containing modules, not in compliance with IEC 62717 are now tested to 6 000 h
- Testing sample sizes have been modified to give valid statistical data
- The temperature reduction of 10 °C for street lanterns and floodlights has been removed
- Life definitions have been updated and aligned with IEC 62717
