What is BS EN 50041 on Control switches about?

BS EN 50041 is an international standard that includes specifications for various low voltage switchgear and control gear devices.

BS EN 50041 applies to certain position switches with automatic return actuator, the standardized dimensions of which and the characteristics necessary for their application are given below. A smaller size (30x55) is standardized in EN 50047.

BS EN 50041 includes six types of position switches with the following actuator types:

  • Roller lever actuator (form A)
  • Rounded plunger actuator (form B)
  • Roller plunger actuator (form C)
  • Rod lever actuator (form D)
  • Rounded plunger side actuator (form F)
  • Roller plunger side actuator (form G)

BS EN 50041 is covering devices fitted with either independent (snap) action contact elements designated (1), or dependent action (slowly make and break) contact elements designated (2) in Clause 5.

Who is BS EN 50041 on Control switches for?

BS EN 50041 on control switches is useful for:

  • Manufacturers and suppliers for control switches
  • Dealers and distributors for control switches
  • Designers of electrical equipment, control switches

Why should you use BS EN 50041 on Control switches?

The control switches which help to maintain the positioning of the switchgear and control gear parts are called position switches.

BS EN 50041 specifies the dimensions and characteristics for control switches in the type of position switches to help designers and manufacturers to achieve standardization and safety while production of switches, and their components. It helps you in fixating the position of low voltage switchgear and the control gear equipment firmly.

BS EN 50041 helps its users for assessment of risk and reduces the risks by providing them with the appropriate design, safeguarding, information for use, and preventive measures in order to ensure the safety of the control switches.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 50041:2019 supersedes BS EN 50041:1981, which is withdrawn
