What is BS EN IEC 6094774‒PCB terminal blocks about?

BS EN IEC 6094774 is the fourth part of the multi-series standard that specifies requirements for PCB terminal blocks primarily intended for industrial or similar use.

BS EN IEC 6094774 applies to PCB terminal blocks intended to connect copper conductors, with or without special preparation, having a cross-section between 0.08-millimeter square and 300-millimeter square (AWG 28-600 kcmil), intended to be used in circuits of a rated voltage not exceeding 1000 V AC up to 1000 Hz or 1500 V DC.

Who is BS EN IEC 6094774 ‒PCB terminal blocks for?

BS EN IEC 6094774 on PCB terminal blocks is for:

  • PCB manufacturers
  • PCB designers
  • PCB dealers and suppliers
  • Connectors manufacturers
  • Electronics equipment manufactures

Why should you use BS EN IEC 6094774‒PCB terminal blocks

Adhering to BS EN IEC 6094774 manufacturers of PCB terminal blocks can assure increased safety by isolating and protecting other components in the electrical circuits.

BS EN IEC 6094774 on PCB terminal blocks provides useful guidance on requirements and product designing information for PCB terminal blocks deliberated to connect with copper conductors which helps PCB manufacturers enhance the quality of their products.   In addition to the product information, BS EN IEC 6094774 on PCB terminal blocks covers items, subject to agreement between manufacturer and user.

Also, BS EN IEC 6094774 provides specifications of connectors which is a bonus benefit to its users, as the requirements for PCB blocks and connectors are quite similar attributing to equivalent applications.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN IEC 6094774:2019 supersedes BS EN 6094774:2013, which is withdrawn. BS EN IEC 6094774:2019 includes the following significant technical changes:

  • Additional test for PCB terminal blocks with clamping units
  • Tightening torques for screws given in Table 4; tightening torques added for an additional type of screw
  • New criteria for verification of contact resistance introduced
  • Clarification in the description of the temperature-rise test (current-temperature derating), corrections in the test sequence according to Figure 4
