What is BS EN 16997 - Determination of the sulfur content in Ethanol (E85) automotive fuel- Wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometric method about?

BS EN 16997 specifies a wavelength-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (WDXRF) test method for the determination of the sulfur content in ethanol (E85) automotive fuel [3], containing ethanol between 50 % (V/V) and 85 % (V/V), from 5 mg/kg to 20 mg/kg, using instruments with either monochromatic or polychromatic excitation.

Note 1: Sulfur contents higher than 20 mg/kg can be determined after sample dilution with an appropriate solvent. However, the precision was not established for diluted samples.

Who is BS EN 16997 - Determination of the sulfur content in Ethanol (E85) automotive fuel- Wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometric method for?

BS EN 16997 on Determination of the sulfur content in Ethanol (E85) automotive fuel- Wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometric method is useful for:

  • Petroleum and natural gas industry
  • Automotive fuel industry
  • Testing houses and laboratories
  • Research institutes

Why should you use BS EN 16997 - Determination of the sulfur content in Ethanol (E85) automotive fuel- Wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometric method?

Sulfur content is present in ethanol, so monitoring it and keeping it to certain level is important for maintaining air quality.

The wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometric method specified in BS EN 16997 allows you to achieve high resolution, high throughput, especially for lighter elements, low detection limits, and robust analysis.

BS EN 16997 provides guidance on the WDXRF spectrometric method and fundamental parameters method for determining sulfur content in ethanol(E85) automotive fuel with accuracy and precision along with repeatability and reproducibility of results.
