What is BS EN 61747-5 - Liquid crystal display devices about?

BS EN 61747-5 is the fifth part of a multi-series standard used for liquid crystal display devices.

BS EN 61747-5 lists test methods applicable to liquid crystal display devices. BS EN 61747-5 takes into account, wherever possible, the environmental test methods outlined in IEC 60068. BS EN 61747-5 also includes visual inspection for both liquid crystal display cells and modules.

Note 1: This standard is established separately from IEC 60749 because the technology of liquid crystal display devices is completely different from that of semiconductor devices in such matters as:

  • Shape and size
  • Used materials and structure
  • Function
  • Measuring methods
  • Operation principles

Note 2: Devices include cells and modules.

Who is BS EN 61747-5 -Liquid crystal display devices for?

BS EN 61747-5 on liquid crystal and solid-state display devices is useful for

  • Manufacturers of electronic display devices
  • Manufacturers of laser display devices
  • Theatre displays
  • Electronic engineers

Why should you use BS EN 61747-5 - Liquid crystal display devices

A liquid-crystal display (LCD) is a flat-panel display that uses the light-modulating properties of liquid crystals combined with polarizers.

BS EN 61747-5 specifies the test methods and test procedures for liquid crystal display. The test methods are as follows:

  • Mechanical test method is useful in determining the solderability and bond strength of these displays. This also helps in resisting the robustness of these terminations
  • Environmental and endurance testing method helps in ensuring the durability and sustainability of these displays in different climatic conditions.
  • Miscellaneous test method is helpful in determining the permanence which is useful in cleaning procedures on the devices.

BS EN 61747-5 helps in inspecting the dimensions, temperature range and requirements of the monochrome matrix liquid crystal displays are appropriate or not. By applying BS EN 61747-5, you can determine the environmental properties that result in manufacturing better image quality liquid crystal displays.
