What is BS EN 62561-4 - Requirements for conductor fasteners - Lightning protection system about?

BS EN 62561-4 is the fourth part of the multi-series standard that is applicable to lightning protection system component (LPSC) conductor fasteners.

BS EN 62561-4 deals with the requirements and tests for metallic and non-metallic conductor fasteners that are used to retain and support the air-termination, down-conductor and earth-termination systems.

Note:

BS EN 62561-4 does not cover the fixing of conductor fasteners to the fabric of structures due to the vast number and types used in modern-day construction.

Who is BS EN 62561-4 - Requirements for conductor fasteners - Lightning protection system for?

BS EN 62561-4 on LPSC requirements for conductor fasteners is useful for:

  • Manufacturers and suppliers of conductor fasteners
  • Manufacturers, suppliers or installers of lightning protection system
  • Civil engineers
  • Building contractors
  • Testing laboratories of LPSC

Why should you use BS EN 62561-4 - Requirements for conductor fasteners - Lightning protection system

A conductor fastener is a metallic, non-metallic or composite component designed to retain and support the air termination, down-conductor and earth-termination systems, installed at intervals along the length of the conductors

BS EN 62561-4 provides requirements and tests for lightning protection system components (LPSC), specifically, conductor fasteners this will help you for the installation of a lightning protection system (LPS) designed and implemented according to IEC 62305.

Overall, LPSC can also be suitable for use in hazardous atmospheres. There are therefore additional requirements when installing the components in such conditions

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 62561-4:2017 supersedes BS EN 625614:2011, which is withdrawn.

BS EN 62561-4:2017 includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:

  • New detailed flow chart of the tests
  • In annexes a and b, composite fasteners have been added
