What is BS EN 1647 about?  

BS EN 1647 discusses about Leisure accommodation vehicles. BS EN 1647 specifies requirements intended to ensure the safety and health of persons using caravan holiday homes as defined in EN 13878, as temporary or seasonal accommodation. 

BS EN 1647 specifies grades of resistance to snow loads and the stability of the structure of caravan holiday homes as well as the minimum information to be included in a user's handbook and also specifies the corresponding test methods.

BS EN 1647 provides recommendation  on taking environmental aspects into account during development, production, and disposal of caravan holiday homes based on established knowledge and within the respective technical possibilities. 

BS EN 1647 specifies a guidelines on providing a saftey advice manul for the users.  

BS EN 1647 specifies variuos test methods that the manufacterer must follow during designing and manufacture steps of the caravan which will ensure the safety of the users as well as providing the caravan which comply with the regulatory standards.  

What’s changed since the last update?  

BS EN 1647:2018+A1:2021 s supersedes BS EN 1647:2018, which is withdrawn. 

In relation to EN 1647:2012, the following main technical changes have been made: 

  • “Ceiling height”, requirements specified 
  •  Glazing”, requirements specified 
  • kitchen location” and 5.10 “Fire behavior of materials” deleted 
  • Electricity”, earth wiring specified 
  • “Emergency windows and emergency panels” modified 
  • “Protection of flammable elements” specified
