What is ISO 5402-1 - Leather - Determination of flex resistance with Flexometer method about?  

ISO 5402-1 is the first part of the multi-series international standard that focuses on leather determinations of flex resistance and flexometer methods. ISO 5402-1 specifies a method for determining the wet or dry flex resistance of leather and finishes applied to the leather. ISO 5402-1 applies to all types of flexible leather below 3,0 mm in thickness.

Why should you use ISO 5402-1 - Leather - Determination of flex resistance with Flexometer method 

A flexometer is a tool for measuring the range of motion of various joints around the body. A goniometer is more commonly used to measure the flexibility of a joint. It is also possible to use an inclinometer or clinometer, instruments designed for measuring angles of slope.  

The aim of ISO 5402-1 is to measure the flexibility of a joint, which is important for injury prevention and execution of many sporting movements. ISO 5402-1 is intended to determine the resistance of a material to cracking or other types of failure at flexing creases. 

ISO 5402-1 applicable to all flexible materials and in particular leathers, coated fabrics and textiles used in footwear uppers.

BS EN ISO 5402-1:2017 supersedes BS EN ISO 5402-1:2011 which has been withdrawn. BS EN ISO 5402-1:2017 has been editorially revised.
