What is PD CEN/TS 17184 - 112 eCall IMS about?

The ability to reach help on time is a vital factor during a crash. The 112-eCall system in the vehicle contacts the 112 emergency services, establishes a wireless telephone connection and immediately provides the public service answering point (PSAP) with a minimum set of data that identifies the vehicle, location of the crash, the direction of travel, and may provide additional relevant data. It may also provide the number of passengers, other vehicles and incident-related data.

In respect of 112-eCall, PD CEN/TS 17184 defines the high-level application protocols (HLAP), procedures and processes required to provide the eCall service via a packet-switched wireless communications network using IMS (Internet Protocol Multimedia System) and LTE/ 4G/E-UTRAN wireless access.

PD CEN/TS 17184 provides an overview of the eCall session for pan European eCall. PD CEN/TS 17184 specifies HLAP protocols for eCall using IMS. It, therefore, provides the LTE/4G E-UTRAN equivalent of EN 16062 for GSM/UMTS and should be suitable for all/any packet-switched networks that support IMS and LTE/ 4G/E-UTRAN wireless access.

Who is PD CEN/TS 17184 – 112 eCall IMS for?

PD CEN/TS 17184  on 112 eCall IMS is useful for:

  • IT and telecommunication firms
  • Tech developers/software programmers
  • Transport authorities
  • Regional Transport Offices
  • Transport and safety management industries
  • Organizations that manage road transport and highways

Why should you use PD CEN/TS 17184 – 112 eCall IMS

To provide the 112-eCall service across a wireless network, high-level application protocols are required as an important essential element to affect this service provision. In a packet-switched network, packets of data (including voice) are sent through an internet protocol communication system, using SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) which is managed, most popularly using IMS.

PD CEN/TS 17184 provides you with the protocols to put into effect the pan-European eCall operating requirements and also identifies common elements that can be used in the link between third party services supporting eCall and PSAPs.

PD CEN/TS 17184 walks you through real situation scenarios indicating how the users of the eCall system will use the system and what their actions and needs would be when vehicles are involved in an accident. PD CEN/TS 17184 guidelines help you to make road transport safer for drivers and passengers.
