What is PD CEN/TS 17363 - ECall optional additional data in ITS system about?

PD CEN/TS 17363 develop standards deliverables which use Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) to increase the safety of users of road transport systems. Therefore, the focus has been on eCall.

PD CEN/TS 17363 defines an eCall “Optional Additional Data" concept for the “Minimum Set of Data” (MSD) to be transferred from a vehicle to a 'Public Safety Answering Point' (PSAP) in the event of a crash or emergency via an 'eCall' communication transaction.

PD CEN/TS 17363 specifies:

  • Protocol requirements to ensure phone user consent to the provision of the linked 'phone number to the PSAP in the event of an eCall triggering incident
  • Definition of the OAD concept “Linked mobile Telephone Number” (LTN)
  • Privacy provisions
  • Advice to PSAPs on the use of the eCall OAD LTN
  • Example of an in-vehicle sequence generating the LTN OAD and forwarding it as part of the MSD

NOTE: For clarity, the communications media protocols and methods for the transmission of the eCall message are not specified in PD CEN/TS 17363

Who is PD CEN/TS 17363 - ECall optional additional data in ITS system for?

PD CEN/TS 17363  on eCall optional additional data in ITS system is useful for:

  • Ambulance system
  • Road and transport office
  • Transport authorities
  • Road and transport managers

Why should you use PD CEN/TS 17363 - ECall optional additional data in ITS system

In the event of a vehicle serious crash, the 112-eCall system in the vehicle contacts the 112 emergency services, establishes a wireless telephone connection and immediately provides the ‘public service answering point’ (PSAP) with a ‘minimum set of data’ that identifies the vehicle, location of the crash, the direction of travel, and may provide additional relevant data. This data provides the vehicle identification, location, and direction of travel immediately before the incident.

PD CEN/TS 17363 empowers the users with the information related to the  Optional Additional Data (OAD) concept, requirements to ensure the user's consent to the provision of the linked phone number, any provisions to be made regarding privacy and advice to PSAPs on the use of the extra information.

PD CEN/TS 17363 describes the linked phone number optional additional data concept ‘data’. The objective of this data concept is to provide the PSAP with the phone number of (one of) the occupants of the vehicle at the time of the incident.
