What is PD CEN/TS 16405 – 112-eCall about?

The ability to reach help on time is a vital factor during a crash. The 112-eCall system in the vehicle contacts the 112 emergency services, establishes a wireless telephone connection and immediately provides the public service answering point (PSAP) with a minimum set of data that identifies the vehicle, location of the crash, the direction of travel, and may provide additional relevant data. It may also provide the number of passengers, and other vehicles and incident-related data.

PD CEN/TS 16405 provides specifications for an optional additional data concept for commercial vehicles to provide dynamic data about the load that it is carrying at the time of the incident that triggered the eCall, with specific emphasis on the identification of dangerous goods.

Note: PD CEN/TS 16405 does not specify the communications media protocols and methods for the transmission of the eCall message.

Who is PD CEN/TS 16405 - 112-eCall for?

PD CEN/TS 16405 on 112-eCall is useful for:

  • IT and telecommunication firms
  • Tech developers/software programmers
  • Transport authorities
  • Regional Transport Offices
  • Transport and safety management industries
  • Organizations that manage road transport and highways

Why should you use PD CEN/TS 16405 - 112-eCall?

To develop standards deliverables that use Intelligent Transport Systems to increase the safety of users of road transport systems. An ITS station unit supporting the 112-eCall service will provide accurate position and time information and provide access to all data required in the MSD to comply with applicable privacy regulations.

PD CEN/TS 16405 provides you commercial vehicle optional additional data concept ‘data’. The objective of the commercial vehicle data concept is to provide the PSAP with data concerning the load of the affected vehicle transmitting the MSD.

PD CEN/TS 16405 walks you through real situation scenarios indicating how the users of the eCall system will use the system and what their actions and needs would be when vehicles are involved in an accident. PD CEN/TS 16405 guidelines help you to make road transport safer for drivers and passengers.
