What is BS EN 61197 - Insulation liquids about?

BS EN 61197 is a British Standard for insulation liquids.

BS EN 61197 guideline specifies a method for measurement of linear flame propagation along a glass-fibre tape impregnated with the insulating liquid to be tested.

BS EN 61197 is applicable to all insulating liquids, used and unused, with kinematic viscosity lower than or equal to 300 mm2/s at 40 °C. Insulating liquids of higher viscosity may also be tested but should be heated before impregnation of the glass-fibre tape.

Who is BS EN 61197 - Insulation liquids for?

BS EN 61197 on insulation liquids is useful for:

  • Electrical engineering industry
  • Mechanical engineering industry
  • Transformers and power generator manufacturers
  • Power plants

Why should you use BS EN 61197 - Insulation liquids?

BS EN 61197 provides guidelines to manufacturers on how to use for insulation liquids adequate performance in that application.

When these insulation liquids are handled according to the standards provided in  BS EN 61197, it ensures smooth workflow and safety.
