1   Scope

Thisdocumentspecifiesdesignprinciplesforinformationtechnologyandnetworktelecommunicationscabling (e.g. SANandLAN) inaccordancewithEN 50173‑5, baseduponthecriteriaandclassificationsfor “availability” and “physicalsecurity” withinEN 50600‑1.
Thisdocumentaddressesthetelecommunicationscablinginfrastructuresusedindatacentres. Itdescribes:
  1. a) fordesign, theapplicationofgeneric cablingstandardsintheEN 50173 series;
  2. b) forinstallationspecification, planningandpracticesandqualityassurance, theapplicationofstandardsintheEN 50174 series (andrelatedstandards).
Inaddition, thisdocumentspecifiesrequirementsandrecommendationsforthefollowing:
  1. 1) generalinformationtechnologycablingtosupporttheIToperationofthedatacentre;
  2. 2) telecommunicationscablingtomonitorandcontrol, asappropriate, powerdistribution, environmentalcontrolandphysicalsecurityofthedatacentre;
  3. 3) otherbuildingautomationcabling;
  4. 4) pathways, pathwaysystems, spacesandenclosuresforthetelecommunicationscablinginfrastructures.
Safetyandelectromagneticcompatibility (EMC) requirementsareoutsidethescopeofthisdocumentandarecoveredbyotherstandardsandregulations. However, informationgiveninthisdocumentcanbeofassistanceinmeetingthesestandardsandregulations.
