What is ISO 15836-2 - DCMI Properties and classes about?

ISO 15836-2 establishes a vocabulary for cross-domain resource description, known as the Dublin Core metadata terms that include all of the properties and classes in the main namespace of DCMI Metadata Terms, as published in the DCMI Recommendation document “DCMI Metadata Terms” of 2012.

Both ISO 15836-1 and ISO 15836-2 include the 15 so-called core terms, but in ISO 15836-1 they are from the /elements/1.1/ namespace, and in ISO 15836-2 from the /terms/ namespace. In the latter, the terms have narrower semantics due to the formal domain and range specifications.

NOTE: The 15 terms of the original Dublin Core Metadata Element Set, as defined in the namespace https://purl .org/ dc/ elements/ 1 .1/ (hereafter “the /elements/1.1/ namespace”), are also documented in the DCMI Recommendation “DCMI Metadata Terms” and in ISO 15836-1.

Who is ISO 15836-2 - DCMI Properties and classes for?

ISO 15836-2 on Information and documentation is useful for:

  • Libraries
  • Museum
  • Bank
  • Offices

Why should you use ISO 15836-2 - DCMI Properties and classes

It is expected that ISO 15836-2's properties and classes will be used in conjunction with metadata words from other, comparable vocabularies in the context of application profiles.

The RDF language defined by ISO 15836-2 can be applied to Linked Data, as can a set of attributes and classes defined by the standard.

When creating non-RDF information, it is possible to use the vocabulary without attention to the RDF-specific characteristics of term definitions such as the global identifier and formal implications of term definitions.

The DCMI UB worked closely with ISO to develop ISO 15836-2. DCMI metadata terms are meant to be as closely matched with this document's definitions and annotations as feasible.

DCMI wants its users to amend the standards and match their material more closely with DCMI metadata keywords.

Description Information on how to utilise a word can be found in Application Profiles. Older sources have had their information refreshed.

To keep Dublin Core up to date, the DCMI Usage Board may make adjustments to your DCMI metadata terms. Future revisions of ISO 15836-2 should integrate these changes.
